never be so afraid of a tumble...

'Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. What if they are a little course, and you may get your coat soiled or torn? What if you do fail, and get fairly rolled in the dirt once or twice. Up again, you shall never be so afraid of a tumble.'
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Luving Soufflé

A soufflé is a light, fluffy, baked dish made with egg yolks and beaten egg whites combined with various other ingredients and served as a savory main dish or sweetened as a dessert. The word soufflé is the past participle of the French verb souffler which means "to blow up" or more loosely "puff up" — an apt description of what happens to this combination of custard and egg whites.

Every soufflé is made from 2 basic components:
1. a French
Creme patissiere base/flavored cream sauce or purée
2. Egg whites beaten to a soft peak meringue.

The base provides the flavor and the whites provide the "lift". Foods commonly used for the base in a soufflé include
jam, fruits, berries, chocolate, banana and lemon. When it comes out of the oven, a soufflé should be puffed up and fluffy, and will generally fall after 5 or 10 minutes (as risen dough does). - from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Souffl%C3%A9

Luving Soufflé - angmao version of soybean curd to me:)

Heard her (Carla Bruni aka wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy) songs in the hostel. Nice soothing songs sang with her guitar & meaningful lyrics:)

goodie foodie!

Lo dropped me a msg on Fri aftrn to meet for dinner. Reason being she is flying off next Fri! 6 months really flew past.We ended up in Jap Gourmet Town at Vivo. Ordered Ajisen Butter Corn Ramen, Botejyu Seafood Okonomiyaki and Yoshimi Vege & Hokkaido Potato Sapporo Curry to share. Real sinful & real bloated at the end. It was a nice & good dinner nonetheless!

Sat dinner @ Swiss Cult to cbrate sq's belated birthday:) Cheese fondue, meat grill, appetiser scallops on the table.

Met to discuss abt upcoming tw trip in apr @ starbucks. A caffe mocha to perk me up abit. We decided on our itinerary. Really looking fwd to the nature & beauty of beitou & yms:) We hit off to Geylang to eat roadside durian + rochor soya bean milk...craving satisfied:) Happy bday, twk! We'll talking abt cars...caden juz got his new suzuki swift sport, kel is deciding what to get by yr-end & it'll most likely be a honda civics. Still luv my Audi TT (like the name & look of the car) but it will only be a fantasy cos I know tt I'll nvr get a sports car- for practicality & don't think I can afford it. Guess I am actually more a family wagon car type gee. Sorry fio, xq to disappoint, most likely will not get a car in the near future:P

With the foodie indulgence, I seriously need a good jog next week:P

JB

JB on a Sat after jap class?
Sounds good and it was decided a month ago:)

The 6 of us were really quite taken aback by the super long bus queue at the custom. In the end, only managed to reach citysquare @ 4pm....

The day ended with a seafood dinner @ taman johor and buying arrowroot crisp (finally know the name:) from one of the stalls. A nice malay lady sells it & allows free tasting:P

JB shall be the first stop, yearning to go on penang, melaka food trails too!

NYNY

We brought ah gong to amk hub for dinner on sat evening. Decided to go for western or jap food rather than the usual chinese cruisine that we go for as a family. Ah gong was game enough to try too:P

Got a cushion-seat for 5 at New York New York. Ordered meat platter, fish N chips, crunchy mushroom & onion rings + free pumpkin soup (citibank's payment). Dad signed up for the membership cos it was his bday month and the free bottle of wine more than make up for the 30 bucks membership fee:)

Blue Upon Green

Blue Upon Green
i pause to breathe;
looking ahead, the mud-path,
lined by onlooking trees
and overshadowing bushes,
runs on -
thinning out threadline
into the diminishing distance
where a patch of blue
descends upon
a patch of green
my mind wanders
beyond the wall of blue
upon green
and chances upon
treasures of unseen wonders,
a blue so much bluer
and a green much greener
in between the secrets
of recreating
a maker's dream

First days of 2009

Eve of 09

We celebrate the eve of 09 with steamboat dinner, Giant snacks attack, east coast park countdown, cycling through the night using the park connectors, stopping @ changi village for supper & loyang temple for the first pray, embracing the morning dew, first rays of sunlight, savouring BK breakfast & finally home sweet home. (Refer to XQ's blog for details)

1st day of 09

Home by noon for a quick nap after the overnight cycling. Shagged. Kopi @ Yakun for some catching up. Nap's bday dinner @ The Ship with the gang.

2nd day of 09

Hit back to office for work. White water rafting trip from Fri night to Sun 6am. Yippee finally! I hope it'll be a fun xperience!

Aftermath of rafting:
It was fabulous! Considering the fact that Ipoh had been raining for 3 consecutive days, the current was strong. Due to safety, we had to forgo slim river & headed to kampar river instead. Tip learnt: Stop paddling to ride on the rapids, hold on tight, lean in if you want to prevent falling off your raft @ strong currents!

The rafting group with our guides; persistent rain even after our rafting=P

Beautiful closure of 2008

Curtains to be drawn soon for 2008 and this will mark my last piece for the year.

2008 is quite eventful. Enjoyed most of the weekends which is filled with outdoor activities. The simple joy of breathing in the fresh air, enjoying the blue skies and to be so close to our mother nature.

Treasure the island. Luving every morning & dusk with the sun, sand & sea. I'll surely miss this place when we shift to mainland next year. In fact, the thought spurs me to jog more often after work. I jog with my mobile for music and was glad that I have my mobile to capture the sunset of 2008 @ Tanjong Beach....

Happy NYE :)

Cape No. 7

Watched the movie online cos tics are quite popular & dun seem to get a chance to watch it in theatre..nice song by 范逸臣.

Fiesta Cheese Cake - Mini Version

The mini version is here. The adorable fiesta cow stamp on the mini round cake is simply irresistible =P At S$2.10 each, the normal size one is more economical. However, I feel that this minature version suits me perfectly=)

Adapted directly from the box - Fiesta Japanese cheese cake is a light tasty and nutritious daily snack. It has a rich source of calcium to strengthen the bones, with a low sugar content, An enjoyable dessert to complement your meal.~ Nice marketing text~ Not too sure about the nutritious value part...but I am sure it is definitely something that can satisfy my always sweet tooth after dinner=P
